Sometime in 1580, in the western coast of Northern Luzon, Philippines, the province of Pangasinan was created. In it a distinct town named Claris went on its daily quiet existence: folks planted, fished, and made salt and bagoong, children played, and early Chinese traders came and went. The malady of today’s society is man’s insensitivity, callousness and indifference to the welfare of the less fortunate and the marginalized people. There is a big discrepancy on wealth among the population where in the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The poorest among the poor suffers most in time of disasters and calamities and even in normal times.

We are cordially inviting you to join First Pozorrubio Essay/Expository Writing Contest. We particularly call on our Pozorrubian writers, leaders, technocrats, public administrators, economists, intellectuals, pragmatists, government employees, politicians, and students to participate.

 

Our St. Philomena’s Academy Batch 64 Alumni together with Quesada eTechnologies are jointly sponsoring this project. This writing contest is the first in a series of writing contest that we are sponsoring. For this year, we have decided on a topic that is Pozorrubian-centric.

 

We feel the patriotism of each and every one of you as evinced in the donations, missions, comments, and monthly remittances you send wherever you are in the country and abroad. The same patriotic feeling motivates residents and global Pozorrubians to join community building. Yes, we see your love of your hometown, and the desire to lift you fellow Pozorrubians.

If given the opportunity to lead the local government of  Pozorrubio the first thing that comes to mind is the motto I got from the Jaycess International which says that “service to humanity is the best work of life”, and the Rotary International which says “service above self”, and from former President Manuel L. Quezon’s, “a public office is a public trust.”

The History of St. Philomena's Academy PDF Print E-mail

The year 1948 is a very remarkable year in the town of Pozorrubio because it marked the foundation of a private catholic high school – St. Philomena’s Academy. A co-educational institution which was named after St. Philomena, a virgin and martyr of the Roman era whose feast used to be celebrated every 11th day of August until February 14, 1961 when it was dropped from the Church Calendar.
